Custom Braided Rugs

Oval Braided Rugs – Behind The Scene For Added Beauty

The techniques for making oval braided rugs date back for centuries. These rugs have been used for many, many years and will continued to be used for many, many more by the next generation of decorators and home owners. Braided rugs began their lives as scraps. Thrifty women who were unwilling to throw away a single scrap of fabric began collecting these scraps for a future project. Most flooring at that time was either packed dirt or roughly hewn logs, so floor coverings were essential. To solve the floor covering problem and find a use for their scraps, women began creating custom braided rugs to add warmth and beauty to their homes.

Steps To Braiding

The first step in making oval braided rugs is to create the strips that will be used for the braiding. These strips are generally about four inches in width and can be of any material and color. However, the thickness of the material will directly determine the thickness of the braid and therefore the thickness of the rug. Also, the colors used will play a large part in the colors of the rug. Once the strips are assembled, they are sewn end to end in order to create one long strip for braiding. The braiding begins in earnest and the oval braided rug begins to take shape.

After the braids are completed, they are soaked and then coiled together in order to create braided oval rugs. You can create custom braided rugs depending on the colors and the fabrics used.
