Couristan Rugs - For A Great Selection

Couristan rugs
are a marvel for the first time or existing homeowner who is looking for a new look or redecorating their home. Couristan rugs is a well established reliable company, but also because of the sheer breadth of styles of area rugs that they manufacture.

The History of Couristan Rugs

Couristan rugs was founded in 1926 by two brothers, Basil J. Couristan and George J. Couristan, who aptly decided to name their new company Couristan Brothers.  They began their enterprise by importing handmade area rugs from Persia. Ron Couri, the present CEO, recalls his father telling him of the travels they had to make to get the rugs: "First they took a ship to England, then another to the continent. Once in Europe they took the Orient Express and then drove through the desert to Persia. They finally arrived 32 days later. It was quite an adventure."

The first Couristan area rugs were so called because of the import stickers attached to them.  The first part of the word, ‘Couri’, referred to the brothers themselves.  The second part, ‘stan’, referred to the group of weaving villages that the rugs had been handmade in.  The name was trademarked, and the Couristan company was officially born.

In the 1930s the company started to import rugs from China and Japan, and in the 1950s they added broadloom products. Nowadays the selection of Couristan area rugs is huge – the residential broadloom Couristan rug selection alone contains more than sixty collections. Customers can choose from many different styles of manufactured carpet – from Wove Axminster to Fusion Bonded Loop Piles to Cut-Piles. They can also choose from a great variety of styles, from traditional Oriental and Persian designs to floral to contemporary designs. The current Chairman, George Couri, said: "The unparallel breadth of styles, colours and lifestyles offered in our residential broadloom product assortment is a reflection of the importance we place on colour forecasting, design and construction analysis, as well as our ability to globally source the best products at the best prices for the consumer."
